Petrus Wandrey has been a part of my world since childhood. My grandfather began collecting his work in the late 1990s, and in the early 2000s, my father collaborated closely with him on various projects. I was born in 2003, a time when Wandrey was still actively creating and developing his oeuvre. In an early photograph, I'm sitting with one of his catalogues, fascinated by the forms and colors long before I could grasp their deeper meaning.

 

One of my earliest memories is a dream that felt more like a nightmare. I was searching for my parents in our house and suddenly saw two enormous Circuit Dancer figures in Wandrey's style standing in their place, with my parents' heads. The image is etched in my memory. It's strangely powerful and bizarre to know that this dream is the first one I can consciously recall.

 

It is a great honor that Wandrey created two Circuit masks for me in 2007/08, signed "Für Simon." They have been with me ever since. Growing up surrounded by his work felt completely natural. During the pandemic years, I spent a lot of time at our family business, the Sabatier Art Gallery in Verden, cataloging works and scouring archives. It was during this time that I began to understand Wandrey's work more deeply and to recognize the connection between his visual language and his critique of systems and values, as well as his fascination with technology.

Currently, I am studying finance at the International University of Monaco. This course of study has further broadened my understanding of Wandrey's work, particularly his engagement with capitalism, finance, and monetary systems. In 2024, I took over the inactive website that we had launched with Petrus in the early 2000s and transformed it into a platform that reflects his legacy.

 

In early 2025, I met Steve Alain Lawrence (CIO of Balfour Capital Group) in Monaco, which led to the development of the Petrus Wandrey Blockchain Editions, and later that year to our first joint exhibition at NBB Gallery in Berlin. Since working with Balfour, I have remained in close contact with Wandrey’s widow, Ute Janssen, continuing and developing his vision in alignment with her.
